The official opening of the bridge on Dixon Drive, Telina, early today (April 18) has been welcomed as a significant link in Gladstone’s future road network.
The $6 million project, connecting Dixon Drive to Kirkwood Road, is a crucial infrastructure component in helping to connect southern and western suburbs.
Gladstone Regional Council Mayor Gail Sellers opened the bridge before fellow Councillors, dignitaries and representatives of Walker Corporation, Woolworths, Shadforth and Broad Construction.
“The bridge will provide a vital city link for access to Kirkwood Road, the new Woolworths and specialty stores and some of our newest city suburbs,” Cr Sellers said.
“This key infrastructure component will help alleviate traffic congestion at other major city intersections, provide an additional route to link more city suburbs and reduce travelling time for motorists.”
Developers of the Forest Springs Residential Estate invested more than $3 million to complete the Dixon Drive extension.
In conjunction, Council spent more than $3 million provided by developer contributions to transport infrastructure, to construct the bridge over Police Creek.
“Today’s ribbon cutting symbolised the completion of a much anticipated project but recognised a much greater achievement through the significant progression of Gladstone’s road network,” Cr Sellers said.
“This network will further be enhanced with the opening of Kirkwood Road Stage 3, providing a strategic city ring road while helping to sustain future road needs.”
